Brief Consultation
You’ll meet with a licensed medical provider for a skin consultation. Your provider will discuss any concerns you have about your skin, as well as what you’d like to accomplish. We will also discuss any sensitivities your skin may have.
Numbing
A topical numbing agent will be used to ensure your comfort during your treatment. Pre-treatment numbing cream may extend the entire treatment session up to one hour—still plenty of time to schedule your treatment before work or during your lunch hour.
Collagen Production
The SkinPen creates millions of controlled microchannels in the skin. This jump-starts your body’s production of collagen and elastin, and encourages the release of growth factors that recruit and increase reparative cells.
Results
Patients typically experience slight swelling and redness/pinkness after treatment, which will subside in 24 to 72 hours. Many people see rejuvenated skin after just one treatment. Results should continue to improve for 3 to 6 months following your SkinPen appointment.
Soothing Gel
To conclude your session, your provider will apply a soothing gel that will soothe the skin and help prevent it from drying out.

Pre-Care Instructions
Before your appointment for SkinPen in Fairbanks, you should:
6 Months Before
Discontinue use of oral isotretinoin (Accutane).
1 Week Before
Minimize sun exposure, and do not use a tanning bed.
Use sunscreen for extra protection.
If possible, avoid use of aspirin, naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), coconut oil, omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil), ginseng, gingko, turmeric/curcumin, St.John’s Wort.
3 Days Before
Discontinue use of ibuprofen.
Note: Acetaminophen (Tylenol, Advil) can be used before and after treatment
Day Of Treatment
Discontinue use of retinoid creams.
Wash treatment area with non-abrasive cleanser (no exfoliation).
If you are prone to cold sores, take relevant medication you are prescribed.
*Always consult your physician before discontinuing medications.

Post-Care Instructions
Following your SkinPen Microneedling in Fairbanks, make sure you:
Day Of Treatment
For the first 3 days, use only the products your provider will provide at your treatment.
For the remainder of the day avoid clothing on the treated area (i.e. hats, scarves, headbands, or any other clothing), if this cannot be avoided then use only cotton clothing that has not been treated with fabric softener or dryer sheets.
If you are prone to cold sores, continue your medication as directed.
For discomfort you may take acetaminophen (i.e. Tylenol, Advil) if needed.
Cleanse your eyeglasses, sunglasses and phone with an alcohol wipe. Use a clean pillowcase at night.
Try to avoid dirty, dusty environments and sun exposure.
3 to 5 Days After (or once skin is no longer sensitive or peeling)
You may resume retinoid use.
You may resume use of alpha-hydroxy acids (e.g. lactic acid, glycolic acid, malic acid).
You may resume use of salicylic acid.
You may resume the use of scrubs and exfoliating products.

Typically, we treat patients who are 21 years or older; however, some skin conditions may be eligible for treatment in younger patients. Those with scarring or other less common conditions at younger ages may be eligible for this treatment. We are happy to advise on your particular circumstances during a consultation.
- How soon can I put on makeup after a SkinPen treatment?

After the first 24 hours, any remaining redness can be covered with makeup. You can expect to return to normal activities the following day.
- Should I have follow-up SkinPen treatments?

To maximize results for conditions such as fine lines or acne scarring, we recommend repeating SkinPen treatments once a month for 3 to 5 months after your treatment series.
